Winter Musings

Meteorological winter begins December 1st. Astronomical winter begins December 21st. Me?  I think winter begins January 1st.  Why?  Easy.  Winter technically begins during the busiest holiday season we have. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Eve: people go into frantic mode in the hustle and bustle. Preparations, gift buying, parties, traveling, you name it, people never stop. Until New Year's Day.
Today we start to embrace winter as Mother Nature does.  Our lives slow down. We retreat to our homes to nest and to be cozy as nature sleeps. We seek out comforting food and drink while dressed in our comfiest clothes.  It is a time to quiet our minds and to simply be. Step outside. What do you hear today?  I live in busy area of old town.  The street is quiet. The animals are quiet.  The  people are quiet. Everyone is home enjoying their winter slumber as our dormant period begins.
Many people make New Year's resolutions to be more active in the coming year.  Barring the exercise we do for health or for our professions do you find yourself seeking more cozy time at home, making yourself dormant as you recharge and prepare for the spring?
